Suspected US airstrike hits Yemen migrant centre, Houthi TV says 68 killed

A suspected U.S. airstrike hit a migrant detention center in Saada, Yemen, killing at least 68 African migrants, according to Houthi-controlled Al Masirah television. The center, located on a known migration route to Saudi Arabia, held over 100 undocumented migrants. This strike is among the deadliest in a recent six-week surge of U.S. attacks targeting the Iran-aligned Houthi group, who have disrupted Red Sea shipping in support of Palestinians. Images from the site displayed bodies amid rubble, and survivors were heard crying for help. The U.S. military has yet to comment, citing operational security. The location had also been struck in a Saudi-led airstrike in 2022. With civil war ongoing for a decade, Yemen remains a perilous route for migrants from the Horn of Africa. Last year, over 500 people drowned crossing the Red Sea. Rights advocates and U.S. lawmakers have raised alarms over mounting civilian casualties, with calls for Pentagon accountability. The broader conflict and migration crisis are compounded by previous human rights violations at the Yemeni-Saudi border, including allegations of killings by Saudi guards, which the kingdom has denied
