A teenager has been arrested and another person left seriously injured following a violent gang fight involving machetes at a shopping centre in Melbourne’s north-west.

Upon arrival, officers found a man in his 20s with serious injuries consistent with being struck by a machete. He was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Teen Suspect in Custody

A 16-year-old boy from Delahey was arrested at the scene. Victoria Police confirmed he is assisting detectives with their inquiries. He has not yet been formally charged.

Police say a number of people fled the scene before officers arrived, and the investigation is ongoing to identify and locate all those involved.

Public Area Locked Down

The shopping centre was temporarily placed in lockdown while police secured the area. Witnesses described panic and confusion among shoppers during the incident.

“It was terrifying. People were running in all directions,” said one eyewitness.

Ongoing Investigation

Police believe the altercation was a targeted incident involving known individuals and have ruled out any ongoing threat to the public.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses. Victoria Police have appealed to the public for information or video footage that may assist with the investigation.
