U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) is set to travel to Ottawa, Canada, as part of a bipartisan congressional delegation focused on strengthening North American cooperation on trade, national security, and shared democratic values. The visit reflects ongoing efforts by U.S. lawmakers to reinforce ties with key allies amid rising global instability and economic challenges.

According to a statement from Klobuchar’s office, the delegation will engage in high-level meetings with Canadian lawmakers and government officials, including discussions on cross-border supply chains, energy cooperation, and efforts to counter foreign interference and misinformation.

“I look forward to working alongside my colleagues and our Canadian partners to strengthen the U.S.-Canada relationship,” Klobuchar said. “Our two countries share not only a long border but a deep and enduring friendship built on democratic values and economic ties.”

The delegation includes senators and representatives from both major U.S. political parties and is being organized with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa. The trip is part of a broader push by Congress to engage more directly with international partners, particularly in areas where legislative coordination can play a key role—such as energy infrastructure, digital trade standards, and environmental regulation.

The U.S.-Canada trade relationship, one of the world’s largest, remains a central focus of such visits. Lawmakers are expected to discuss the implementation of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), which replaced NAFTA in 2020. Concerns over supply chain resilience and fair trade practices have gained urgency in both countries, especially following the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and recent geopolitical tensions.

In addition, cybersecurity and election integrity are anticipated to be major themes, particularly in light of shared concerns over interference from hostile foreign actors. Both nations have pledged to enhance cooperation in defending against cyber threats and disinformation campaigns.

Klobuchar, who chairs the Senate Rules Committee and has been active in election security and antitrust legislation, is expected to highlight the importance of collaborative efforts to uphold democratic institutions and free markets.

The delegation’s visit underscores a bipartisan consensus in Washington on the need to maintain strong alliances with democratic nations, especially in North America. It also comes as the Biden administration continues to strengthen multilateral ties and economic diplomacy across the Western Hemisphere.

The meetings in Ottawa will include roundtable discussions with Canadian business leaders, members of Parliament, and civil society representatives. A joint statement or summary of outcomes is expected at the conclusion of the visit.

This trip marks another step in Senator Klobuchar’s broader efforts to engage with global partners on issues ranging from economic competitiveness to democratic resilience—goals that remain increasingly relevant in today’s interconnected and uncertain world.
