On May 7, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed concern over the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan, urging both nations to cease hostilities and offering to mediate their disputes. Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump stated, “I want to see it stop. And if I can do anything to help, I will be there.”

The tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors intensified following a deadly attack in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. India attributed the attack to Pakistan-based militants and responded with military strikes on sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Pakistan denied involvement and vowed to retaliate.

The international community has expressed concern over the potential for further escalation. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been in contact with both Indian and Pakistani officials, urging restraint and continued dialogue. Despite the U.S.’s strategic partnerships with both countries, Washington has refrained from directly blaming Pakistan for the April attack, instead calling for a responsible resolution.

President Trump’s offer to mediate reflects ongoing international efforts to de-escalate the situation and prevent a broader conflict in the region.
