Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated following a deadly militant attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, mostly Indian tourists. In the aftermath, Indian and Pakistani forces have exchanged gunfire along the Line of Control (LoC), marking a significant deterioration in relations between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
The Indian military reported that Pakistani troops fired at Indian positions for a second consecutive night across the LoC. While no casualties were reported, the exchanges have heightened concerns over the stability of the region.
In response to the Pahalgam attack, India has taken several retaliatory measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, revoking visas for Pakistani nationals, and closing the Attari-Wagah border crossing. Pakistan has countered by closing its airspace to Indian airlines and calling for a neutral investigation into the incident.
The attack, claimed by a new group called the Kashmir Resistance, has been linked by Indian authorities to Pakistan-based militants. Pakistan denies any involvement and has expressed readiness to cooperate with international investigators.
The situation remains volatile, with both nations engaging in diplomatic and military posturing. The international community has urged restraint to prevent further escalation.
