On May 11, 2025, Iran and the United States are set to resume their fourth round of nuclear negotiations in Muscat, Oman, amid significant disagreements over key issues. The talks, mediated by Oman, aim to address the longstanding dispute over Tehran’s nuclear program. U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff has emphasized that Washington’s non-negotiable position includes a complete halt to uranium enrichment and the dismantling of Iran’s key nuclear facilities. Conversely, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has asserted that Iran will not compromise on its right to enrich uranium, although it is open to limiting certain activities in exchange for sanctions relief. Additionally, Iran refuses to discuss its ballistic missile program or accept a deal without strong guarantees against a future U.S. withdrawal, referencing the 2018 U.S. exit from the 2015 nuclear agreement. The outcome of the talks remains uncertain, with both sides warning of alternative actions if negotiations fail.
