Iran is reportedly preparing to deliver launchers for its Fath-360 short-range ballistic missiles to Russia, enhancing Moscow’s ability to conduct rapid strikes against Ukrainian military positions and civilian areas near the frontlines. These missiles, with a 75-mile (120-km) range, would provide Russia with a new weapon to target Ukrainian forces and infrastructure.
The United States had previously sanctioned the transfer of these missiles in 2024 but noted the absence of launchers at that time. The imminent delivery of the launchers reflects deepening military ties between Moscow and Tehran and could further complicate diplomatic efforts to mediate a peace process between Ukraine and Russia.
While Iran denies sending arms to Russia, it has been accused of supplying thousands of drones and artillery shells. The delivery of the launchers may face challenges, including logistical issues such as modifying vehicles and political considerations tied to ongoing diplomatic negotiations.
