Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated as both nations exchanged fire across the Line of Control (LoC) for the third consecutive day, following the deadly attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 Indian tourists.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed the “harshest response” to those responsible for the Pahalgam assault. The Indian Army reported “unprovoked” firing initiated by Pakistani forces along the LoC, the de facto border dividing the disputed region. As of now, Pakistan has not issued a statement regarding these claims.
The recent surge in hostilities follows a series of retaliatory measures by India, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, revocation of visas for Pakistani nationals, and the closure of the Attari-Wagah border crossing. In response, Pakistan has closed its airspace to Indian airlines and called for a neutral investigation into the Pahalgam incident.
The attack was claimed by a little-known group called the Resistance Front, which has been linked by Indian authorities to Pakistan-based militants. Pakistan denies any involvement and has expressed readiness to cooperate with international investigators.
As both nations continue to trade accusations and military fire, the international community watches with concern, urging restraint to prevent further escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
