In May 2025, Argentina’s Supreme Court announced the rediscovery of 83 boxes containing Nazi-related materials in its basement archives. These boxes, originally confiscated by Argentine authorities during World War II, were sent from the German embassy in Tokyo to Argentina in June 1941 aboard the Japanese steamship “Nan-a-Maru.” At the time, Argentine customs officials, concerned about the nation’s neutrality in the war, inspected several boxes and found Nazi propaganda, including postcards, photographs, and thousands of Nazi party notebooks. A federal judge ordered the materials confiscated, and the matter was referred to the Supreme Court. The recent discovery occurred during preparations for the establishment of the Supreme Court Museum. The court is now undertaking efforts to preserve and catalog the materials to assess their historical significance. The Holocaust Museum has been invited to assist in evaluating the collection’s relevance.
