As of May 12, 2025, partial results from Albania’s parliamentary elections indicate that Prime Minister Edi Rama’s Socialist Party is leading with 53% of the vote, with 30% of ballots counted. This positions Rama for an unprecedented fourth term in office, ahead of the opposition Democratic Party, led by former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, which has secured 34% of the vote so far .

Rama, who has been in power since 2013, campaigned on a platform emphasizing Albania’s prospective membership in the European Union by 2030. While this goal has been central to his campaign, some experts consider the timeline ambitious .

This election also marked the first time that approximately 200,000 Albanians living abroad were eligible to vote, potentially influencing the outcome .

Final results are expected by Monday or Tuesday.
