Hundreds of aid trucks remained stuck at the Rafah border crossing on Thursday, as Israeli air strikes targeted central and southern Gaza.
The border at Rafah — a key entry point for humanitarian assistance — has been overwhelmed for days, with aid unable to reach desperate Palestinians inside Gaza. Aid workers warn the situation is deteriorating rapidly amid ongoing bombardment.
Israel continued its military operations in Gaza, focusing attacks on areas including Khan Younis and the Nuseirat refugee camp. Witnesses reported intense air raids and shelling overnight, forcing more civilians to flee their homes.
Meanwhile, negotiations over a ceasefire and potential hostage exchange continue. A senior Hamas official said that the group is still awaiting Israel’s response to its latest proposal.
In a statement, the United Nations called for “immediate, unrestricted access” to Gaza to deliver life-saving aid. The UN also warned of a growing humanitarian disaster if supplies are not urgently allowed through.
Israel says its military campaign is targeting Hamas fighters and infrastructure in response to the October 7 attack. However, rights groups have accused Israel of collective punishment against Gaza’s civilian population.
More than 34,500 Palestinians have been killed since the war began, according to Gaza health officials.
