Between May and August 2025, almost 5 million people in areas controlled by the Yemeni government are struggling to find enough food. Nearly half of the population in these areas are in a food crisis or worse.
1.5 million people are in an emergency situation — they don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
Another 3.4 million people are also facing serious food problems.
This food crisis is caused by many problems happening at the same time:
Ongoing war and violence
A weak economy
High prices for food and fuel
Delayed farming season
Heavy floods
Less help from aid groups
And things could get worse soon. Between September 2025 and February 2026, the number of people facing crisis-level hunger could rise to 5.4 million.
If the war gets worse and food aid is reduced even more, many of those already suffering could fall into catastrophic levels of hunger — the most extreme stage of food insecurity.
