An Israeli military armoured vehicle on Wednesday rammed into a bus carrying Palestinian pilgrims in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, injuring several people and sparking outrage among residents and officials. The bus was transporting Hajj pilgrims en route to Mecca for the annual pilgrimage.

According to the TRT World report, the incident took place near the southern entrance of Jenin. Eyewitnesses said the Israeli military vehicle struck the bus while it was stationary and filled with passengers preparing to travel to Saudi Arabia. Several individuals sustained injuries, with images from the scene showing the damaged side of the bus and distressed passengers.

Palestinian officials and eyewitnesses condemned the incident as a deliberate act. The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong statement condemning what it described as “a heinous attack on peaceful civilians undertaking a religious journey,” and called for international accountability.

The Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed that its emergency crews treated the injured on-site and transported several individuals to local hospitals. None of the injuries were reported as life-threatening, though the psychological impact on the pilgrims was described as severe.

The Israeli military has not yet commented on the incident. However, Jenin has seen a heavy Israeli military presence in recent months due to frequent raids and confrontations. Locals claim this incident reflects a growing pattern of intimidation and violence, especially against civilians in sensitive areas.

The bus involved was part of a convoy organized for Palestinian pilgrims approved to cross into Jordan before continuing on to Mecca. Travel for Hajj pilgrims from the occupied West Bank is heavily regulated and requires coordination with Israeli authorities, often involving multiple checkpoints.

Footage from the scene circulated widely on social media, showing the aftermath and testimonies from passengers. Many expressed disbelief and anger that such an event could happen during a religious pilgrimage, calling on Muslim nations and international organizations to intervene.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs in Ramallah said it would provide support to the injured and ensure the affected pilgrims can complete their journey. They also demanded that Israel be held accountable for what they labeled a “targeted act against religious freedom and dignity.”

The incident adds to mounting tensions in the West Bank, especially in Jenin, which has become a frequent flashpoint in Israeli-Palestinian confrontations. Human rights advocates have expressed concern over escalating violence against civilians, particularly during religious observances and gatherings.

While the bus was eventually removed and replacement transportation arranged, the psychological trauma for those involved remains. Palestinian officials say the matter will be raised with international bodies, including the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the United Nations.
